  • Stay connected to Bear Connections by reading weekly emails, attending additional training and group mentoring opportunities throughout the year

  • Conduct proper closure and complete mentoring surveys

WHO NEEDS A MENTOR??

Everyone needs a mentor. Yet, there are many high school students who do not have a positive adult role model in their lives. This fall, there will be over 100 students entering ninth grade at Winter Springs High School hoping to be matched with a mentor like you.

This is not about tutoring and you do not need to be an expert to be a mentor. Mentors are ordinary people who care about others and have a passion for supporting and youth. They are great listeners who are patient, encouraging an non-judgemental.

MENTEE BENEFITS

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Ultimately, mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Our mentees state that being mentored has helped them develop positive attitudes towards school, develop higher levels of self-confidence and have built a better trust with their teachers.

MENTOR BENEFITS

The relationship a mentor has with his or her mentee is a two-way street. As the mentee grows and learns from the mentor, the mentor also grows and learns from their mentee. This relationship can foster many benefits for our mentors. Mentors can develop leadership skills and gain a personal sense of satisfaction from knowing that they've helped someone. Our mentors gain a new perspective on life, learn more about themselves, become a better friend, person and parent. In addition, our mentors get to know campus, faculty and administration
while becoming better connected to their community.
